Energy Star Computer Specification -- Posted 2/16/2006
The ENERGY STAR specification for computers is currently under revision. EPA is considering new performance requirements for laptops, workstations, desktop computers, integrated computers, and desktop-derived servers under the new specification. Note: desktop-derived servers currently cannot qualify as ENERGY STAR under Version 3.0 of the specification; however, EPA is considering allowing these products to qualify under the new specification.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released Draft 4 ENERGY STAR specification for single-voltage external Ac-Dc and Ac-Ac power supplies. Comments on this draft must be received by November 19, 2005. The specification is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2005.

Environmental Protection Administration announced Feb.23 that it would draft a proposal for efficiency specifications and a test procedure for single-voltage external ac-dc supplies, in a move to convince the power supply industry to develop more energy-efficient products.
